Coffee beans are not actually beans; they are seeds of the coffee plant. They are just called coffee beans because they closely resemble beans. Cultivation of coffee originated in the eastern African country of Ethiopia in the year 850 BC. Later on, all of Arabia caught on with the process. They tried to keep the secret for a long period of time, but somehow some coffee plants were smuggled to the Netherlands. It was only in the 16th century when coffee reached America. Today, the southern part of the United States is one of the biggest producers of coffee in the world. They are so prevalent that you can easily buy bulk coffee beans at a discount.
The different species of the plant includes Coffea benghalensis, Coffea arabicam canephora, congensis, excels, liberica, gallienii, bonnieri, mogeneti, and stenophylla. All these types have different characteristics and body when brewed. There are only 2 main types usually used in most coffee blends however and these are Arabica and Robusta.
Since coffee changes its flavors depending on where it is grown, no longer are they identified by variety but they are identified by their geographic location. Coffee flavors can be difficult to distinguish, but there are a variety of factors that can affect its flavor.
Enjoying a cup of coffee is incomparable. The brewed drink has a lot of caffeine giving an energizing effect to the person who drinks it. Coffee is so popular that everywhere you look there is always a coffee shop. Many however do not give it a though that their coffee goes through many processes before it is served on the table. The beans are first roasted and then ground. Afterwards, the ground coffee is brewed until the entire flavor is in the water. This hot beverage is then served with sugar and cream depending in the preference of the drinker. A coffee drink is also presented in so many ways, some are drip-brewed, and some served as plain black coffee while some are white or even iced.
