The new Kindle 3 has arrived in earnest. Stocks are limited and buyers are frantically trying to get hold of their new electronic book reader, along with a snazzy new case to go with it. First on the scene were the amazon own leather Kindle 3 Covers. Of course, they were popular because when the first rush of interest in the new Reader started they were the only choice available if you wanted a new properly fitting cover for your Kindle.
But, as more and more manufacturers catch up with the new Kindle’s design and size, producing an ever increasing array of covers can Amazon’s own models stand up? Well, to be honest, we assumed that Amazon’s own models might be somewhat lacking. After all many great gadgets are failed by their own branded accessories. But surprisingly this is not the case for the Kindle 3. Amazon’s own covers come in seven cool colors ranging from the traditional (black and chocolate brown) to the more funky (apple green and steel blue). The leather is good enough quality (not luxury but more than adequate and certainly not low-grade) too. Overall, with a great fit, and a purpose designed hinge system that fits the Kindle like a glove they are perfectly made to offer protection for the device, yet remain lightweight enough to fold completely back and allow easy one handed reading.
The Kindle 3 covers come in two versions. The first is a plain old book style jacket. The second looks the same but conceals a reading light inside the back cover. You just pop it up and it turns on automatically when you need to read in the dark. The best bit is the light is powered by the Kindle, through gold-plated hinges that conduct a little electricity to the reading light. A very simple, yet effective way of ensuring you always have the ability to read by your book-light.
Amazon leather Kindle 3 covers were the first choice initially for Kindle 3 buyers since there was nothing else on offer. There great design and good build quality will ensure they remain popular despite the growing competition from other manufacturers.
