A California woman is suing Southwest Airlines for more than $2 million in Davidson County Circuit Court after she says she was thrown off a flight, arrested and falsely imprisoned in Nashville last summer.

The woman in the story is suing Southwest Airlines for having her thrown off the plane. Getting arrested and thrown in jail in incidental and not something that Southwest has anything to do with other than reporting the woman’s behavior.

Frankly, she is going to lose. We have all flown enough to know that airplanes do not return to the gate and chuck people off the plane for no good reason. It is just too much of a hassle for everyone involved from the other passengers to the airline and the schedule it needs to keep. We also all know the yahoos that don’t turn off their phones when the announcement about turning off electronic devices is issued. They crouch down in the airplane seat and mumble into their phones. They hurriedly try and finish the text message they are working on and get it sent off. Whatever the situation, they will finally be told to turn the device off directly by a flight attendant. I have never seen anyone defy at that point. But it sounds as if this lady did.

You don’t have to read every travel blog on the internet to know that you just don’t mess with the flight attendants. Especially since 2001, you really don’t mess with the flight attendants. And I have zero sympathy for anybody that does or does not understand this concept. The flight attendants have an important job to do in keeping order on the airplane and if you just think they are there to serve you a drink, then you are a moron.

If this lady did indeed do what she was accused of in defying the flight attendant, then I hope that the court either chucks her case or she gets a jury that soundly blows her out. And then she gets stuck with her attorney fees. But, the attorney is probably working on contingency so maybe that part of my dream won’t come true.

There is an element of personal responsibility missing from the outlook of many people today. If you broke the law knowingly or not, then stand up and take responsibility and whatever punishment and move on.
